Dreaming in Taroko.

I've been studying Chinese at Wenzao since the summer semester of 2008 and so far have had a great time.

Overall the teachers I've had have been very good and prepared for each lesson. Classmates are from nations all over the world and most are genuinely there to improve their Chinese.

They have different schedules for classes, I personally do Monday-Friday from 8am-10am. Between that and my afternoon/evening work hours I don't have a lot of time to devote to my homework or reading/writing Chinese but alas.

The tuition in my opinion is affordable, no matter if you do an 18 week or 8 week 'semester', and no matter how many hours per week you do (15, 10 or 2) the tuition per hour is $150.

I can't comment on their scholarships as I've never applied for one but yes their library is quite good.

The campus itself is very beautiful and clean. During the normal semesters it can be quite busy with the students from the university running around, but in a way I like it because I do miss university life.

If you have extra time and are interested in studying Chinese I definitely would recommend Wenzao. It's easy to get to as it's on Min-Zu road in Zuo-Ying District.

And if you ever see me on campus feel free to say hi!

I also recommend Wen Zao.

Check with their Foreign Languages Center (Department) for free or evening courses in languages.

It can add to your knowledge or if you just want to take a course to meet friends or kill time. They offer quite a bit of variety such as German, Latin, French, etc. But check for availability.

The location is easy to find and pretty much in the "suburbs" of Kaohsiung.

I'd check it out for those who want to enhance his/her language skills.

WenZao is a great place for begining your Chinese studies.
Great academic environment with a first rate library on campus. It helped my listening comprehension and the fact that you change profs every semester allowing exposure to different teaching methods was a plus. They have numerous scholarships available too. The only real problem I have with the language center is that they don't offer enough speaking practice at the upper levels and the course content is somewhat irrevevant to daily conversational topics. they're also getting bigger which means that attention to individual students and activities are dropping off. Still highly recommeded for those who first get to Taiwan and want to take on the language.
