This market is one of the best places in Kaohsiung to buy Jade (jadite & nephrite), ivory and wood carvings, crystals, semi precious stones, amber, fossils, brass ware and paintings. You should bargain. Most of the stuff sold is genuine but some is not. Let the buyer beware. If you have no idea what you are looking at or how to bargain you had better take a friend along who does. Great place to shop for Xmas & birthday, wedding presents. Wednesday is THE day to go to buy jade. The market now seems to be open many days of the week and weekends too but the best jade is sold on Wednesdays as the jade traders go to other markets around Taiwan on the other days. Difficult to park if you are driving a car.

This is a highly fascinating place to visit. It would be hard to spend any money here unless you know what you are buying in the way of precious gems, gemstones, pearls, jewelry and of course jade (many varieties seen here). That is why I have never purchased anything because I haven't a clue if what I'm looking at is real, but still an interesting place to browse I'd say? On any given weekend and Wednesdays, you'll find multiple stalls almost all indoors but for the very rear end of this place. Vendors, many of which are armed with a scale, sell precious stones and the like. And standby to weigh out your stones of choice and give you a price.
