We've just released a major new version of Kaohsiung Insider.

Change is sometimes a difficult thing, so I've put some notes together to help you make the transition from the old site you know and [love|like|hate].

Some things have been added, and some others improved. Among the added things:

Restaurant Menus. We haven't entered any yet, but will do in the coming days and weeks. You can help by encouraging your favorite spots to get their menu on KSI.
A new Events page. The new format is intended to give you an overview of what's happening, grouped in an intuitive way. You can quickly see what's going on this weekend, for example.
A review map on your profile page. You quickly see where you have reviewed and added spots.
More complete multilinguality. This was the major structural work undertaken for this release, and it allows us to easily store localized versions of events, spots and other things. Look for improved support for Chinese, French and Vietnamese soon. If you would like to help out with translation into one of these languages, please get in touch at info@kaohsiunginsider.com
Housing search. You can now search for housing by type (room for rent, apartment, house, etc), district, price, and other attributes. If you're looking for roommates, you can meet others in the same situation in the Roommate Pool Group

Some other stuff has been improved, notably:

Search. You can now search directly from the middle of the front page, and there are search boxes in the drop down menus at the top of the page, too. Spot search results are now much more relevant. Location-based search is now easier to use. Just click on the map where you'd like to center your search and set a radius for the search. You can search by keyword or by category, so, to find all the restaurants within 500m of the Cultural Center...
Lists have had a makeover. I hope you find them easier to use now. Lists are a great way to organize the things you've reviewed, and we're hoping to see people using starting to use them now.
Private messages. We now include the message you're replying to in the reply. This should be a useful improvement for those who, like me, have short-term memory issues.
Pages are now a little wider, and we've had a visual makeover. Many thanks to Mr. Julien for all his help with this.

Finally, we'd like to know who are the 20% of our users still using Internet Explorer 6. IE6 is 8 years old, and has over a hundred unresolved security issues, not to mention that it's a huge pain to design for as it disregards most standards. If you're using IE 6, please upgrade to a modern browser like Firefox, or even IE7. Do it - web developers will thank you, and you'll be more secure.
