Well, we live in a country that isn't ours and I'm sure we all contribute to some kind of degredation to the local surroundings. Perhaps this is one way of giving back. In trying to tackle a monumental goal, the Kaoh Enviros attempt, in a respectable way, to contribute to the Kaohsiung environment. Having hosted two beach clean-ups, the good intentions are obviously in place. However the inaccessability to mobilize large numbers of both foreigners and locals alike, is a challenge that is yet to be overcome.

Perhaps as Kaohsiung prepares to host the World Games, more opportunities will present themselves allowing for different events to be offered.

The intent is good and the effort seems valiant but the success and recognition a daunting task no doubt. I joined a beach clean up along the sleepy seashore of CaiShan mountain in late summer and it was fun. I've been there many many times before and have been back since and there doesn't seem to be a noticeable impact. I missed another beach cleanup along the same hidden shores but a different location. It seems that to make this project work, you have to reach out to locals with huge banners in Chinese made uniquely visible, open workshops and information booths and to at least organize clean ups of busy public spaces (Cijin beach, Central Park for example) out in plain view.
