I ordered a pizza at this new location and requested to have it ready for me to pick up at 8:30pm on a Thursday evening. I made my order in person about four hours before, and I must say it was ready and waiting for me, fresh cooked and delicious. I think the oven continues to be a fascination for me, but the crust and sauce are good too! I think just the right amount of crunch (crust) and tang (tomato sauce) mix together to make it one of the best pizzas around albeit a bit pricier.

i've had good and bad pizzas here (including out by the lake when andy was there)...maybe it's just not my style, but i'm glad someone is trying to do pizza justice & i'm all for supporting the little guy, because for a city of 2 million, we have a lot of really bad pizza and it is one thing that never seems to get better than pizza hut becasue nobody knows what they are doing! it won't hurt to give him a try, and then decide if it's too your tastes.

Dreaming in Taroko.

I was first introduced to the greatness that is wood burning brick oven pizza in my hometown of Boise, Idaho. Casanova Pizzeria was opened several years ago (while I was still living in Boise) by a close friend of my family, and it was his livelong dream to open up such a pizzeria. I'm bringing this up simply because having had such wonderful pizza, one thing I missed after moving to Taiwan was hand made dough and pizza burned in a wood brick oven.

Not long after moving to K-town I had heard of the wonders of Andy's Pizza Garden, but that it was difficult to find and somewhere in the vicinity of Cheng-Ching lake.

I never took the time to look for it, but low and behold several days ago I found out they had moved to Zuo-Ying, literally only 5 minutes by scooter to my house.

Picked up a large pie on Friday, and was so happy went there for dinner last night as well.

First things first:
Andy (the owner) is very friendly and easy to talk to. I appreciate the effort and work he's put into creating such wonderful pizza's and furthermore I was discussing with him the possibility of trying out different pizzas and he was open to the idea.

Secondly, the location now is very easy to find. If you're coming from the north of Kaohsiung, head south on Zhi-You road, go past Smokey Joe's and turn right on Ming-Hwa. You'll find it on the left hand side after about a block. If you're coming from downtown or southern K-town, head up either Bo-Ai and turn right on Ming-Hwa or up Ming-Tzu and of course, turn left.

Now on to the good stuff: The pies! They have 7", 10" and 12" pies available. They have the standard pies such as Hawaiian and Margherita. Of course to any of the pies you can add toppings, of which they have many to choose from.

So far my favorite is the 4 Cheeses, as it has fresh mozzarella, Gouda, Parmesan, feta and some basil. It's delicious, especially if you're a cheese lover. The pizza crust is thin (just the way I love it) and is very good, not too chewey and generally with a bit of a crunch.

Additionally I can tell Andy and his employees know how to cook pizza's in a wood brick oven, as each pie I've had has had very few, if any, burnt spots. Kudos for this.

Most 10" pizza's run from 300-385, 12" run from 315-415. Not a bad price at all in my opinion, especially as you know the ingredients are fresh, the dough is hand made and the toppings are plenty.

Besides the pizza they also have soft drinks, juice, fruit teas and a selection of beers available as well.

I personally am so happy to have found this, as in my opinion once you've had hand made dough and pizza made in a wood burning brick oven, everything else pales in comparison.

So what are you waiting for? Their new location is easy to find, and furthermore with this amazing weather get out there and grab some amazing pizza!
