The Grand Hotel has become a rather historical building. It was one of the first decent hotels in Kaohsiung and built its reputation on good food in its various restaurants and their luxurious, albeit now rather old fashioned, rooms. The golf course at the rear and the golf club at the side of the building is also well known not only for the course itself but also for the membership and guest only club which has a great swim pool,deep with U/W lighting at night, a good restaurant/bar and games room for kids and young teens. The Grand hotel is well known for its wedding banquets, much favoured by the local as well as the ex-pat community. At the back of the hotel is a small pool which also has a long history with the ex-pat community. At one time back in the day it was the only decent pool in the whole of Kaohsiung. To this day it is one of the only pools with a 5 meter deep end. The pool is a great place to hang out on a weekday in summer, order food from the restaurant and drinks from the bar. A few years back it became rather notorious for ravE parties with ex-pat teachers partying it up to a decent sound system on hot weekend afternoons. It is of course very familiar to all the crew in the Hash House Harriers who use the large forecourt car park as a kicking off spot for their runs and walks.
